Tuesday 15th July 2014

HI All,

It has been a while since I sent out a CMA e-News, so I thought it was about time.

Just a reminder of What's On, Where & When .....

Athletics Canterbury AGM - Wednesday 23rd July, Cashmere Club @ 7:30

This is the Centre AGM, not CMA.  You are all welcome to come along.  As part of my role on this committee as the CMA representative, at this meeting I will be presenting the 2014 - 2015 Track & Feild Programme.  Once this programme has been approved, I will add it to this website.  It has all the CMA meetings on this programme, which we will discuss at our AGM.

CMA AGM - Wednesday 20th August, Port Hills Club Rooms @ 7:30 p.m.

In the April Cant-A-Long, the call for the CMA AGM was published, along with my President's report.  Please bring your copy of Cant-A-Long magazine along to this meeting, having first re-read the report.  There were several issues raised in my report that need to be addressed at the AGM.  If you are interested in being on the CMA Committee, please let me know prior to the meeting. We need people to 'train up' and share the load!  This meeting is your opportunity to have your say about how CMA is run, so please do come along.

Winter Throws Pentathlon:

As per last winter, Bev (when she's not overseas) has organised the Throws Pentathlon on the first Sunday of each month.  If you want to attend, meet at Rawhiti Domain at 10:00 a.m.

North Island (Hastings) & South Island  (Dunedin)Track & Feild Championships:

Both of these events are to occur on the same weekend, i.e. November 28th - 30th 2014.  There is a slight delay to Vetline this month, due to lack of articles / photo, so I am not sure when the respective entry forms will be available.  Once I have them or see them on the NZMA website, I will let you know.

NZMA Board Meeting - Hamilton 12th July 2014:

Recently I attend ed the Board Meeting.  Most of the meeting was taken up with two items.  Firstly, the 2014 - 2016 NZMA Handbook has been revised / updated and will be available to all members later on this year.  Secondly, the NZMA Track & Field Championship programme was presented to the Board.

As per the forum at the NZMA AGM held in Invercargill, a THREE day Championship meeting was discussed and this will be trialed in Tauranga, March 2015.  As part of my role as Vice-President of NZMA, I have spent many hours looking at the number of competitors in all events / age groups for the past four national championships.  Using this information, a new programme was created which has been sent to the LOC in Tauranga.  The net result is that the Throws Pentathlon occurs on Sunday.  The LOC of the North Island Championships have agreed to trial the programme, so we can get some feedback and make slight alterations if needed, before the NZMA Championships.

Canterbury Cross Country Championships - Halswell Quarry 19th July 2014:

Good luck to those competing.  Masters Women @ 2:05 p.m. and Masters Men @ 2:40 p.m.

Athletics New Zealand Cross Country Championships - Halswell Quarry 9th August 2014:

This event is also being held at Halswell Quarry.  With the new club registration system being run by Athletics New Zealand, NON-club registered masters who are eligable to compete, cannot enter on-line.  If you are interested in competing, you will have to contact Catherine O'Sullivan directly to enter by e-mailing her on Catherine@athletics.org.nz

The same will apply for the New Zealand Road Championships later in the season.

That's all for now .... see some of you on Saturday.

Regards,

Andrew Stark

Winter Throws Pentathlon:

As per last winter, Bev Church is organising a series of throws pentathlon that are scheduled to occur on the 1st Sunday of each month.   I'm not sure it is to start this Sunday (6th April), so please check with Bev (383 5448) if you are intending to compete.

Tuesday 4th March 2014

Hi All,

The weather certainly has changed and if I did not know any better, one would think winter has arrived.  Well done to all those who went down to Invercargill for the NZMA Track & Field Championships.  It was a rather cold experience!  As yet, I have not seen a full list of results, but that should be available soon.  If anyone taking part believes they have broken a CMA record, please let Penny Reid (penelopereid@yahoo.com know so she can check that all is correct.

Just a reminder of What's On, Where & When .....

CMA Track & Field Closing Night - Wednesday 12th March NOW at Rawhiti Domain starting @ 6:15 p.m.

This was down to be held at Hansen Park so if you know anyone who may attend but does not receive e-mails, please let them know the change of venue.  At this meeting we will be celebrating Ian Brownie's birthday who turns 85 years old on that day.  Just maybe he mgiht race and break some records?  Following the meeting we will be having a BBQ. We will provide the sausages, so if you can bring some appropriate food to share that would be great.  There will also be a raffle on the night, with the major prize being a trip for two on the Trans Alpine Express, thanks to Tony McManus.

Events:  Track 60m, 100m, 200m, 800m.  Field:  Shot Put & Weight Throw

CMA Throws Pentathlon Championships - Sunday 16th March at Rawhiti Domain @ 10:00 a.m.

Myself, Rick & Anne Davison are unable to attend this event, so all enquiries are to be directed to Bev Church on 383 5448 (gandbchurch@gmail.com ).  If you are planning to attend or can help as an official, please let her know so she can make sure the correct gear is available.

Link Relay - Saturday 29th March at Halswell Quarry @ 2:00 p.m.

This event is organised by CMA and is our major fund raiser for the season.  If you are able to help, please let me know ASAP (aws@xtra.co.nz ).  Click here to view the RACE CALL for this event.

CMA Awards Dinner - Sunday 6th April at The Cashmere Club @ 5:45 p.m (Meal starts at 6:15 p.m.)

It's hard to believe that the season is almost over.  Our final gathering for the season is the awards dinner to be held at the Cashmere Club.  This year the dinner will cost $15.00 for CMA members and $25.00 for non-CMA members. We require a minimum of 45 people to attend to ensure we get the best price possible for the buffet style meal.  At the final CMA night, we will start a list of who is coming.  If you are not going to be there on the 12th March, but want to go to the dinner, please contact Carol Thompson on 384 4700 (carolthompson@clear.net.nz)  as she is compliling the list.

Cant-A-Long Copy

I will be trying to get an issue ready in time for the CMA dinner.  To make it more interesting than just a list of results, please contribute something ... an article of interest or simply some photos.  Every little bit helps.

Think that's all for now ...

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

Hi all,

Thank you to those who have already entered the CMA Track & Field Championships - Saturday 1st February 2014 @ Rawhiti Domain.

So far we have only about 25 CMA members who have entered the Championships.  Last week I have sent out a mimi newletter with an entry form on it, so all those who are likely to compete have that information ... so please enter if you are planning to compete!

As I will be working in the office tomorrow, I will extend the deadline for entries until12:00 p.m. Friday 31st January 2014, ... but you must ring me on 338 0516 or e-mail me your entry.  Payment can be made on the day at Rawhiti Domian.  Click here to download an Entry Form.  There is a limited number of Athletics Canterbury officials, so we will be needing some help to run some of our field events.  Please make yourself available if asked.

Entries can still be made on the day, BUT there is a LATE FEE of an extra $10.00.

Following the events we will be holding a BBQ, the cost of which is Included with your entry fee.  Additional tickets for family / friends can be purchased at a cost of $5.00.

Tuesday 17th December 2013

Hi All,

Thank you to the 30 or so members / supporters who attended the Christmas Break-up Meeting at Rawhiti Domain last Wednesday.  I appreciate your support.

CMA Track & Field Championships - NOW Saturday 1st February 2014.

Following a discussion with those attending the Christmas Break-up Meeting, it was decided that our CMA Championships will now be held during an Athletics Canterbury Saturday Interclub programme. CLICK HERE to view the suggested programme.  The main reason for this change is to take advantage of the officials already present at Rawhiti Domain. However, I suspect we will need to officiate some of our own field events.  We will conclude the meeting with a BBQ.  More details later.

CMA Record Up-date.

Follow the SI Championships, the CMA records have been up-dated.  Please check to see if your record effort has been missed.  Penny Reid has taken over the roll of 'record keeper' from Bryan Kerr.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bryan for all that he has done for CMA in the past.  I know he is still available as an advisor.  CLICK HERE to vew the records.

That's all for now.  I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

Thursday 5th December 2013

Hi all,

It's been a while since my last report.  The North Island and South Island Track & Field Championships have been and gone.  Hosting the South Island Championships in Timaru proved to be a popular and successful decision as several South Island Championship records were broken, plus one NZMA record (Trevor Guptil, 60m in 8.54).  Organising the event was a huge task.  Thank you to all those who helped out officiating during the meeting.  To see a copy of the results,CLICK HERE.  I will up-date this file once I have checked for records.

What's On, Where & When .....

Jack King Throws Pentathlon - Sunday 8th December, Rawhiti Domain @ 10:00 a.m.

This is on first Sunday. It is being organised by Bev Church (383 5448) / Rick Davison.  If you know you are going, please give Bev a ring.

CMA Christmas Break-up Meeting - Wednesday 11th December, Rawhiti Domain @ 6:15 p.m.

Initially this meeting was to be held at Hansen Park, but as Rawhiti Domain is in better condition it is now being held there.  I would really like to know how many members will be there, so please CLICK HERE and let me know via e-mail.  For those who do not or are unable to compete at Saturday Interclub meetings, here is your chance to support a 'Wednesday' meeting.

Events:   Field - 6:15 p.m. shot put followed by javelin    Track: 6:30  60m, 6:35. 800m / 1500m, 6:45 100m, 7:00 300m / 400m, 7:15 200m.  All events to stop no later than 7:30 after which we will have a shared supper.

Advance Notice:  CMA Track & Field Championships CHANGE of DATE:  Saturday 1st February 2014

Initially this meeting was to be held on Sunday 2nd February 2014 as a stand alone meeting.  However, attendance at the Opening CMA meeting, those running at interclub and attending the SI Championships indicates that it would be a very small meeting.  The suggestion I have is to run our Championship within the Saturday Inter-club programme, holding our own events.  By doing this, we have all the track officials organised by the centre, however we may need members to officiate with some of throws / jump events.  We would have a CMA meeting point near the 1500m start line and use the throwing circles at that end of the track.  Following the meeting there will be a CMA BBQ as per last year.   I would like to discuss this option at the Christmas Break-up Meeting next Wednesday ... so be there and have your say.

Cant-A-Long Issue:

There will be no December issue as planned.  I simply have not had the time nor the material .... if someone wants to take over the editor's role, please let me know.

Thank you to those who have supported CMA events.  I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.  More news later ....

Thursday 7th November 2013

Hi all,

Just a friendly reminder that the closing day for entries to the South Island Track & Field Championships is tomorrow.  I am away in Hamilton for the weekend, so I will accept entries up until Sunday night, without a late fee being applied, i.e. S10.00.

Might I also remind you that if you plan to run at Athletics Canterbury Interclub Saturday competitions you MUST be a financial member of CMA as from this Saturday, 9th November 2013.  If you are a club registered athlete already, you can compete.  Graham Vivian (Athletics Canterbury) has a list of CMA members who have paid their subscriptions this season (due last September).  You can download a registration form HERE by going to the registrations page if you have not already paid.

So far, I believe the CMA members who have completed at Interclub meetings have enjoyed the experience.  I hope more will take up this opportunity.

Regards,

Andrew Stark

Friday 18th October 2013

Hi all,

The Opening Day at Hansen Park occured last Wednesday and it was a disappointing turn out with only 4 throwers and 7 runners.  Thank you to the 3 others who did make the effort to be there and help out with timing races.  I am at a loss as to know what we need to do to generate more interest in our own meetings.  The lack of numbers attending supports the concept that CMA do join in the Saturday Inter-club meetings, which we are trialling this year.

What's On, Where & When .....

Registrations are due NOW.  Click here to download a registration from.

Winter Throws Pentathlon Result:

On the first Sunday of each month throughout the winter, a small group has gathered at Rawhiti Domain to compete in a Throws Pentathlon.  CLICK HERE to view the results.

Saturday Inter-Club Meetings this Saturday - 19th October 2013:

This is the first opportunity for non-club CMA members to attend inter-club. CLICK HERE to view the programme.  I will be there to help organise what needs to be done to make this an enjoyable outcome.  If you are not competing, we plan to set up camp on the bank, around about the 60m start line.  I hope to see more members there, than I did on Wednesday.

North Island & South Island Championships:

Entries for both these events close soon:  1st November for the NI Championships and 8th November for the SI Championships.  CLICK HERE for a link to the NZMA website where you can download an entry for for either one.

Remember we are organising the SI Championships in Timaru and help will be needed.  If you are not competing or your spouse can help, please let me know ASAP.

Andrew Stark

Monday 7th October 2013

Saturday Inter-Club Meetings:

As you will be aware, CMA are joining in the Athletics Canterbury Saturday Inter-club programme this summer.  There are two weekly programmes that run throughout the season (CLICK HERE to view).  It is planned that we will set-up camp on the bank near the 60m start line ... so this will be our gathering spot.  I hope to see many of you down there.  We can talk more about how it will work when we meet at our first CMA meeting at Hansen Park.

Regards,

Andrew Stark

Friday 30th August 2013

Hi alll,

Over the winter, our throwers have been gathering on the first Sunday of each month for a Throws Pentathlon.  However, this month it WILL NOT be happening as we have the Oceania Throws Pentathlon Challange happneing later in the month.  If you see this e-mail and have been part of the group attending this monthly event, can you please pass on this message to members who do have e-mail.

Wednesday 21st August 2013

Hi all,

The CMA AGM has been and gone for another year.  Thank you to those who made the effort to attend.  A list of the new in-coming committee can be found on the CMA Committee page of this website.  There is rooom for some else, so if you can help. please let me know.  WIth the sad loss of Andrew Reese, we are looking for more help, especially as we are hosting the SI Championships in Timaru.

At the meeting Patricia Leech was made a Life Member of CMA in recogniton of her many years of dedicated service and support of our throwers.

The most talked about point of the evening was the change to the CMA run Wednesday / Sunday run meetings.  This season we are going to incorporate our CMA meetings within the normal inter-club meetings held on Saturday afternoon.  There will still be some Wednesday / Sunday meetings.  A full season's programme can be downloaded here or from the Events / Programme page of this website.
