Tuesday 15th July 2014

HI All,

It has been a while since I sent out a CMA e-News, so I thought it was about time.

Just areminder of What's On, Where & When .....

Athletics Canterbury AGM - Wednesday 23rd July, Cashmere Club @7:30

This is the Centre AGM, not CMA.  You are all welcome to come along.  As part of my role on this committee as the CMA representative, at this meeting I will bepresenting the 2014 - 2015 Track & Feild Programme.  Once this programme has been approved, I will add it to this website.  It has all the CMA meetings on this programme, which we will discuss at ourAGM.

CMA AGM - Wednesday 20th August, Port Hills Club Rooms @ 7:30p.m.

In the April Cant-A-Long, the call for the CMA AGM was published, along with my President's report.  Please bring your copy of Cant-A-Long magazine along to thismeeting, having first re-read the report.  There were several issues raised in my report that need to be addressed at the AGM.  If you are interested in being on the CMA Committee, please let me know prior to the meeting. We need people to 'train up' and share the load! This meeting is your opportunity to have your say about how CMA is run, so please do comealong.

Winter ThrowsPentathlon:

As per last winter, Bev (when she's not overseas) has organised the Throws Pentathlon onthe first Sunday of each month.  If you want to attend, meet at Rawhiti Domain at 10:00a.m.

North Island (Hastings) & South Island  (Dunedin)Track & FeildChampionships:

Both of these events are to occur on the same weekend, i.e. November 28th - 30th2014.  There is a slight delay to Vetline this month, due to lack of articles / photo, so I am not sure when the respective entry forms will be available.  Once I have them or see them on the NZMA website, I will let youknow.

NZMA Board Meeting - Hamilton 12th July2014:

Recently I attend ed the Board Meeting.  Most of the meeting was taken up with two items.  Firstly, the 2014 - 2016 NZMA Handbook has been revised / updated and will be available to all members later on this year.  Secondly, the NZMA Track& Field Championship programme was presented to theBoard.

As per the forum at the NZMA AGM held in Invercargill, a THREE day Championshipmeeting was discussed and this will be trialed in Tauranga, March 2015.  As part of my role as Vice-President of NZMA, I have spent many hours looking at the number of competitors in all events / age groups for the past four national championships.  Using this information,a new programme was created which has been sent to the LOC in Tauranga.  The net result is that the Throws Pentathlon occurs on Sunday.  The LOC of the North Island Championships have agreed to trial the programme, so we can get some feedback and make slight alterations ifneeded, before the NZMAChampionships.

Canterbury Cross Country Championships - HalswellQuarry 19th July2014:

Good luck to those competing.  Masters Women @ 2:05 p.m. and Masters Men @ 2:40p.m.

Athletics New Zealand Cross Country Championships- Halswell Quarry 9th August2014:

This event is also being held at Halswell Quarry.  With the new club registration system being run by Athletics New Zealand, NON-club registered masters who are eligable to compete, cannot enter on-line.  If you are interested incompeting, you will have to contact Catherine O'Sullivan directly to enter by e-mailing her on Catherine@athletics.org.nz

The same will apply for the New Zealand Road Championships later in theseason.

That's all for now .... see some of you onSaturday.

AndrewStark

Hi All,

Thank you to the 30 or so members / supporters who attended the Christmas Break-up Meeting atRawhiti Domain last Wednesday.  I appreciate your support.

CMA Track & Field Championships - NOW Saturday 1stFebruary 2014.

Following a discussion with those attending the Christmas Break-up Meeting, it was decidedthat our CMA Championships will now be held during an Athletics Canterbury Saturday Interclub programme. CLICK HERE toview the suggested programme.  The main reason for this change is to take advantage of the officials already present at Rawhiti Domain. However, I suspect we will need to officiate some of our own field events.  We will conclude the meeting with a BBQ.  More detailslater.

CMA Record Up-date.

Follow the SI Championships, the CMA records have been up-dated.  Please check to see if your recordeffort has been missed.  Penny Reid has taken over the roll of 'record keeper' from Bryan Kerr.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bryan for all that he has done for CMA in the past.  I know he is still available as an advisor.  CLICK HERE to vew the records.

That's all for now.  I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thursday 5th December 2013

Hi all,

It's been a while since my last report.  The North Island and South Island Track & Field Championships have been and gone.  Hosting the South Island Championships in Timaru proved to be a popular and successful decision as severalSouth Island Championship records were broken, plus one NZMA record (Trevor Guptil, 60m in 8.54).  Organising the event was a huge task.  Thank you to all those who helped out officiating during the meeting.  To see a copyof the results,CLICK HERE.  I will up-date this file once I have checked for records.

What's On, Where & When .....

Jack King Throws Pentathlon - Sunday 8th December, Rawhiti Domain @ 10:00a.m.

This is on first Sunday. It is being organised by Bev Church (383 5448) / RickDavison.  If you know you are going, please give Bev a ring.

CMA Christmas Break-up Meeting - Wednesday11th December, Rawhiti Domain @ 6:15 p.m.

Initially this meeting was to be held at Hansen Park, but as Rawhiti Domain is in better condition it is now being held there.  I would really like to know how many members will be there, so please CLICK HERE and let me know via e-mail.  For those who do not or are unable to compete at Saturday Interclub meetings, here is your chance to support a 'Wednesday'meeting.

Events:   Field - 6:15 p.m. shot put followed by javelin    Track: 6:30  60m, 6:35. 800m / 1500m, 6:45 100m, 7:00 300m / 400m, 7:15200m.  All events to stop no later than 7:30 after which we will have a shared supper.

Advance Notice:  CMA Track & FieldChampionships CHANGE of DATE:  Saturday 1st February 2014

Initially this meeting was to be held on Sunday 2nd February 2014 as a stand alone meeting.  However, attendance at the Opening CMA meeting, those running at interclub and attending the SI Championships indicates that it would be a very small meeting.  Thesuggestion I have is to run our Championship within the Saturday Inter-club programme, holding our own events.  By doing this, we have all the track officials organised by the centre, however we may need members to officiate with some of throws / jump events.  We would have aCMA meeting point near the 1500m start line and use the throwing circles at that end of the track.  Following the meeting there will be a CMA BBQ as per last year.   I would like to discuss this option at the Christmas Break-up Meeting next Wednesday ... so be thereand have your say.

Cant-A-LongIssue:

There will be no December issue as planned.  I simply have not had the time nor the material .... if someone wants to take over the editor's role, please let me know.

Thank you to those who have supported CMA events.  I look forward to seeing younext Wednesday.  More news later ....

Thursday 7th November 2013

Hi all,

Just a friendly reminder that the closing day for entries to the South Island Track & Field Championships is tomorrow.  I am away in Hamilton for the weekend, so I will accept entries up until Sunday night, without a late fee beingapplied, i.e. S10.00.

Might I also remind you that if you plan to run at Athletics Canterbury Interclub Saturday competitions you MUST be a financial member of CMA as from this Saturday, 9th November2013.  If you are a club registered athlete already, you can compete.  Graham Vivian (Athletics Canterbury) has a list of CMA members who have paid their subscriptions this season (due last September).  You can download a registration form HERE by going to the registrations page if you have not already paid.

So far, I believe the CMA members who have completed at Interclub meetings have enjoyed the experience.  I hope more will take up this opportunity.

Andrew Stark

Friday 18th October 2013

Hi all,

The Opening Day at Hansen Park occured last Wednesday and it was a disappointing turn out with only 4 throwers and 7 runners.  Thank you to the 3 others who did make the effort to be there and help out with timing races.  I am ata loss as to know what we need to do to generate more interest in our own meetings.  The lack of numbers attending supports the concept that CMA do join in the Saturday Inter-club meetings, which we are trialling this year.

What's On, Where & When .....

Registrations are due NOW.  Click hereto download a registration from.

Hi all,

The CMA AGM has been and gone for another year.  Thank you to those who made the effort to attend.  A list of the new in-coming committee can be found on the CMA Committee page of thiswebsite.  There is rooom for some else, so if you can help. please let me know.  WIth the sad loss of Andrew Reese, we are looking for more help, especially as we are hosting the SI Championships in Timaru.

At the meeting Patricia Leech was made a Life Member of CMA in recogniton of her many years of dedicated service and support of our throwers.

The most talked about point of the evening was the change to the CMA run Wednesday / Sunday run meetings.  This season we are going to incorporate our CMA meetings within the normal inter-clubmeetings held on Saturday afternoon.  There will still be some Wednesday / Sunday meetings.  A full season's programme can be downloadedhere or from the Events / Programme page of this website.
