Hi all,

It is hard to believe it is August & where has the year gone?

What's On, Where & When .....
.
CMA AGM - Change of date - NOW Monday 19th August 2014, Port Hills Clubrooms @ 7:30 p.m.

Just a reminder to let you know that the AGM is coming up.  In the April issue of Cant-A-long you will find a list of elected positions that will be decided on the night, plus an agenda.  If there are any remits or notices of motion, these need to be in the hands of the Secretary by Monday 12th August (I bit late I know).

Christchurch  8022

With the sad loss of Andrew Reese, there is room on the committee for a fresh face.  So to ensure your committee does not get 'stuck in their ways', if you are interested in standing for the committee please make it known by contacting myself on 338 0516 or Tony on 332 3921.

One of the issues we will be discussing is the future and format of our CMA organised track & field meetings.  Athletics Canterbury has agreed to let CMA members compete in the Saturday Inter-club competition without being a registered club athlete.  Exactly how this will happen will be discussed at the AGM.

My Presidents report for the 2012-2013 season is also in Cant-A-long, so please bring that along to the AGM.  I do not intend to read it out, therefore I will speak briefly to my report.

Friday 28th June 2013

Hi All,

It's been a while since my last report.  From where I live, I look down on paddocks that have turned into lakes.  I'm not a great fan of wet / cold weather as it does get in the way of training ... well, it would if was able to train without injuries.  Hopefully you have been able to keep warm and dry.  Within the CMA ranks, there are many who are heavily involved in the Athletics Canterbury committees and the organising the events.  There are two important Athletics Canterbury AGM's coming up in July, which you welcome to attend.

Athletics Canterbury AGM:

This is occuring on Wednesday 3rd July at 7:30 p.m. @ the Cashmere Club.  Kevin Jago is the President of Athletics Canterbury.

Athletics Canterbury Track & Field Committee AGM:

This is occuring on Wednesday 10th July at 7:30 p.m. @ the Cashmere Club.

Winter Throws Pentathlon:

A monthly Throws Pentathlon has been introduced this winter, organised by Bev Church.  It is scheduled to occur on the first Sunday on each month (weather permitting), held at Rawhiti Domain starting at 10:00 a.m.  For more information, please contact Bev on 388 5736.  I look forward to hearing about these events.

Member's News:

If you have an event you would like to share with your CMA members, please let me know. The most recent one I know about was Bryan and Patricia Kerr's 60th wedding anniversary this week.  Well done to you both.

This photo was sent to me by Lois Anderson, which I hope Lois, Bryan and Pat don't mind me showing here.

Thursday 4th April 2013

Hi All,

The final gatherings for the summer have been and gone. The Link Relay was held in great weather, but overall team numbers were down, as were the number of children competing.

The Throws Pentathlon held at Rawhiti Domain, attracted the usual competitors, with two special races put on for Max Wood.  Well done Max on beating two more CMA M80 records, this time the 100m and 400m.

CLICK HERE is see results for both events.

There was a good turnout at the CMA Presentation Night, held in early April and based on the noise within the room everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  Well done to all those who received a trophy.

The latast Cant-A-Long has been produced and has been distributed.  In this version you can see the 'winners' and record breakers for the 2012-2013 season, plus my President's report.  There is also advance notification of the CMA AGM, which is to be held in August.   A PDF version of Cant-A-Long, with coloured photos can be seen on-line by CLICKING HERE.

Winter Throws Pentathlon:

For many of the 'track' athletes, the winter season is a time to rest and recover before building up for next season.  However, for the throwers a monthly Throws Pentathlon is being introduce this winter, organised by Bev Church.  For more information, please contact Bev on 388 5736.  It is scheduled to occur on the first Sunday on each month, held at Rawhiti Domain starting at 10:00 a.m. The first such event is to occur this Sunday, 7th April.

As mentioned last time, the South Island Track & Field Championships are being organised by Canterbury, but held in Timaru.  Closer to the time, I will be asking for helpers so we can run a successful meeting, up to our usual standards.

Recently Max Wood and Dave Leech took part in a braodcasting student documentry that scened on Metro News.  This can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.  Their interview occurs at about the 16th minutes of the news broadcast.

If you are planning to race over the winter, good luck and I might just see you around.  If not, I hope to see many of you again at the CMA AGM.

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

Tuesday 19th March 2013

Hi all,

The season is rapidly coming to a close.  Just a friendly reminder to check out what's on, as listed below ....

Link Relay - Saturday 23rd March @ Halswell Quarry starting at 1:30 p.m.:

If you are able to help out with marking out the Link Relay course, meet at the Halswell Quarry by 12:30 on Saturday (Kevin Jago and Peter Watts to co-ordinate).  There will also be some result recording jobs, so come and see me once the course is marked out.  The relay involves teams of 4 (cost $20.00), which can be made up on the day, so you can run as well.  I hope see many of you there.

CMA Throws Pentathlon Championship, plus select track events - Sunday 24th March @ Rawhiti Domain starting at 10.00 a.m.:

This is the final CMA meeting for this season. While the throws pentathlon is taking place, there will be selected track events starting with 100m (10:30 a.m.), 1500m (10:45 a.m) and 200m or 400m at 11:00 a.m.  Other track events will be available on request.know.

CMA Presentation Dinner - Sunday 7th April @ The Cashmere Club:

The final gathering for this season is our presentation night. Once again it is to be held at the Cashmere Club and we will be having a buffet style meal. The meal is timed to start at 6:45 p.m., but you are more than welcome to gather earlier for drinks. In past years this has been an enjoyable evening, so please come.

The costs will be $10.00 for CMA members and $20.00 for non-members. This is a subsidized cost, so it's good value for your money. We need a minimum of 45 people, so bring a friend.  If you have not already put your name down on the list at Max's night, please ring Carol Thompson to advise you are coming (384 4700).

South Island Track & Field Championships 29 November, 1 December 2013 - VENUE CHANGE - NOW TIMARU

CMA is organising this event and it will be now held in Timaru.  While Rawhiti Domain is suitable for throwers, it was decided that the track athletes would stay away.  We will be combing our event with the local South Canterbury Club (Saturday afternoon) and opening it up to secondary school students as well.  This should make for a more interesting meeting for everyone.

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

Wednesday 6th March 2013

Hi all,

Our CMA and NZMA Championship meetings have been and gone.  The results for our CMA Championship meeting are on the RESULTS page of this website.  As yet, I have not seen the results from last weekends NZMA Championships.  I look forward to seeing them, so I can see how our members performed.  However, photos from the weekend can be seen on Nesport.co.nz.

At the NZMA AGM held on Friday 1st March, I was re-elected as vice-president, plus I also attended a 4th World Veteran Games Trust Meeting.

Now that it is March you might think the season is over, but we still have some important events coming up and your help is needed to make some of them happen successfully.

Events coming up ...

Max's Night CMA Meeting - Wednesday 13th March @ Rawhiti Domain starting at 6:15 p.m.:

Max started this event when he turned 75.  It is hard to believe that he is now turning 80!!!   He would like to celebrate the ocassion with some fun events including some relays, so please come along and join in.  Max will also be trying to break some of the M80 records and needs your support.  We are planning to have a BBQ following the events, so I ask you to bring food suitable to share.

West Coast Open Championships - Saturday 16th March @ Anzac Park, Greymouth starting at 9:30 a.m.:

In the past, several of our members have made the trip west and had a great time .... so why not join them this year.  CLICK HERE to see the programme.  There is no entry fee, just turn up and compete events.

Link Relay - Saturday 23rd March @ Halswell Quarry starting at 1:30 p.m.:

This annual event started by Peter & Glen Watts has proven to be a popular relay event over the years.  Now run at the Quarry, it's a pleasent change for the runners who have dieted on 5km road races throughout the summer.  We organise this event and it is our only fund raising event.  I would like to hear from you ASAP if you can help on the day to set up the course etc.CLICK HERE to view the race call and more information about the event.

CMA Throws Pentathlon Championship, plus select track events - Sunday 24th March - Rawhiti Domain starting at 10.00 a.m.:

This is the final CMA meeting for this season.  The selected track events will be determined on the day.  It has been suggested that the throwers will continue to meet throughout the winter months (weather permitting) on the first Sunday of each month, to part-take in a throws pentathlon.  If you are interested, please let Bev Church know.

If you are interested in coming, please let one of the committee members know ASAP.

April Cant-A-Long Issue:

I plan to have a Can-A-Long produced in time to give out on presentation night.  I am always on the lookout for articles / photos, so please help if you can.

Finally, I have some sad news.  Lynn Donaldson passed away last week after a long battle with cancer.  At next Wednesday's meeting we will have a moments silence as a mark of respect for Lynn.

That's all for today.  I look forward to seeing many of you at Max's night.

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

(CMA President)

Sunday 3rd February 2013

Hi all,

It's hard to believe we are already into February.  We are now getting down to the business end of the season.

Events coming up ...

NZMA Championships held in Wellington - March 1st - 4th 2013:

Entries for this event close this week on 7th February 2013.  CLICK HERE for the postal entry post, which can be download from the NZMA website or see the latest Vetline. If you do not know your NZMA registration number, I have a this list or you can ring Kevin Pendergast (Treasurer).  Late entries close on 15th February.

CMA Meeting - Wednesday 6th February - Rawhiti Domain @ 6.15 p.m.:

This meeting was planned to be held 10 days before our CMA Championships.  However, we will still have this meeting as for some it will be valuable training.  Entries for our championships will be taken on the night.  Track: 60m, 100m, 400m, 1500m. Field: Discus & Shot Put.

CMA Championship - Sunday 10th February - Rawhiti Domain @ 11.00 a.m.:   --Officials Needed!!!

As yet, I have received very few entries.  Please e-mail me ASAP the events you wish to enter or you can give me a call on 338 0516 during the day.  Please do this as it makes it easier on the day for the organisers.  Cost: $10.00 including BBQ.  Friends can come to the BBQ, cost $5.00.   CLICK HERE to view the programme.

Regarding the throwing events, if total number of competitors are less than 12, we will consider combining the mens and womens events.  A decision about that will be made on the day, having talked to the throwers involved.

If you know of friends who will not see this e-mail, can you please ring them and pass on this information AND get them to enter ASAP.

I also need to know who will be there to help as an official.  The Canterbury Centre officials are travelling up & down to Timaru on Saturday, so we cannot expect many, if any, to help out on the Sunday.  So, if you are not competing, but can help, I need to know ASAP.

As this is our major championship meeting of the season, you MUST be a current financial member of NZMA to compete.  You can pay that fee on the day, i.e. $55.00.

There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make this event happen. The success of this meeting depends on us all helping out if required.

I look forward to seeing many of you next Sunday.  Hopefully the day will be fine.

Kind regards,

Andrew Stark

Tuesday 19th June 2012

Hi all,

It's been a while since my last CMA e-news.  Unless you are involved with cross-country, it is a quiet time of the year.  In early June I went to a NZMA Board meeting in Hamilton.  There is not a lot to report, apart from letting you know that the planning for both the North Island and the South Island Championships is well underway and that the NZMA Championships are being held in Wellington (March 1st - 4th) next year.

What's On, Where & When ........

CMA AGM - Monday 20th August 2012 @ 7:30 p.m.:

Port Hills Clubrooms @ 7:30 p.m.  To view a draft summer programme for the 2012 - 2013 season, CLICK HERE and we can discuss it at the AGM.  The other main issue to discuss will be whether or not we continue on with Cant-A-Long or simply use our website only as the preferred method of communication.

If you are interested in being on the committee, please let me know.  If you have items you would like discussed, please send any remits to Bernadette Jago by 10th August 2012. - 32 Sloan Street or via e-mail bkjago@paradise.net.nz

Oceania Postal Throws Pentathlon - Sunday 30th September 2012 @ 10:00 a.m.:

Formerly know as the Trans Tasman Throws Pentathlon, this year some island members of Oceania have indicated they will join in this competition.  In previous years it has been held in August, however as I am organising the event, we are going to hold it in September to hopefully avoid the cold weather in the south during August.  For those interested, mark the above date on your calendar.
