Monday 9th August 2017

Hi All,

It has been awhile since I last wrote any news, but a lot has been going on re: Nga Puna Wai.  If you want like to know more, then come along to the CMA AGM.  As advertisied in the April Cant-A-Long issue ...

CMA AGM - Port Hills Clubroom @ 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday 16th August 2017

So that this meeting can occur, we need a quorum of at least 15 financial members, so please come along and remember to bring along your issues of Cant-A-Long. in which you will find the agenda and the President's report.  All people on the current committee are standing again, but we welcome anyone who will like to join us.

Following the meeting we will have a supper provided by the committee.

For those of us who take part in track and field events, it's been a quiet winter.  A few of our hardy throwers have held a monthly Throws Pentathlon event and click here to read their results.

Regards,

Andrew Stark

Hi All,

The weather certainly has been very changeable and it is a lot darker in the mornings!  I don't like winter, but I suspect I am not alone there.

The Pete Watts Memorial Relay was successfully conducted on a cool overcast day, but thankfully no rain.  Thank you to those who helped out on the day to mark out the course and handle the entries.  Click here to view the results.

Tuesday 14th March 2017
Hi All,

The NZMA Track & Field Championships have been and gone, held in Nelson and hosted by Tasman Masters.  Thank you to all who attended, plus those who officiated.  For most of us, the season is now over.  However, I know a few CMA members are going to the World Masters Games to be held in Auckland in late April.  Good luck to those going and I look forward hearing how it goes.  I know Auckland have over 25,000 people attending across all sports, so it will be a busy time for the city.

CMA Closing Night Meeting tomorrow night - CANCELLED!

During the past few seasons, the attendance at our three stand alone meetings has continued to drop.  This week the weather has certainly been unpleasant, with a real winter feel about it.  While the foreast for tomorrow is an improvement on what we have had this week, it is still predicted to be cold with strong easterly winds blowing and an expected temperature just above 10 degrees by 6:00 p.m.  Not pleasant conditions for anyone, so I have decided to cancel this meeting.  REMEMBER we have our CMA Awards Dinner coming up in April, so come along to that!!

If there are any hardy soles who think we should still have this meeting, let me know and I will send those interested an e-mail and you can organise your own gathering.

CMA Throws Pentathlon Championships - Rawhiti Domain @ 10:00 a.m. on Sunday 19th March 2017

Given that tomorrow night's meeting off, why not come down to Rawhiti Domain on Sunday morning?  If you are interested in being involved in this event, please let me know via e-mail (aws@xtra.co.nz) or ring me on 338 0516.  Anne Davison is going to be away, so we could do with a couple of helpers.

Pete Watts Memorial Relay - Halswell Quarry @ 9:00 a.m. on Saturday 25th March 2017

This annual event is on again and it is our only fund raiser event for the season.  HELPERS are required on the day to set up the course, meeting at the venue at 8:00 a.m. I need about six people, so if you are available, please let me know.

CMA Awards Dinner - Cashmere Club @ 5:30 p.m. on Sunday 9th April 2017

This is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our members.  If you would like to come to this event, please e-mail Anna McNab (anna@hmconsultants.co.nz) ASAP.  We need about 45 people to attend to ensure we get the discounted meal price.

Cost:  CMA or ANZ Members @ $15.00 each (below cost!).   Partners or non-member friends @ $25.00 each.

At the dinner I will update you on what happened at the NZMA AGM and how we are getting on with the Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub. development.

That's all for now.

Regards,

Andrew Stark

  • CLICK HERE to view a Word version of the events you can enter, that you can type in, save and e-mail to aws@xtra.co.nz.
  • Come along to Rawhiti Domain next weekend and fill in an entry form & pay the entry fee of $10.00.
  • Simply e-mail me (aws@xtra.co.nz) the events you would like to enter and bring your entry fee on the day you compete.

It is traditional that a few runners to enter selected throwing events at our championships, which does increase the field sizes.  It is important that we do not hinder or delay the running of the Athletics Canterbury Interclub programme.  Therefore on our two Championship weekends, CMA throwers are only to participate in the CMA Championship throwing events scheduled for that day.  I look forward to seeing you there ... please entrer ASAP.

To enter online CLICK HEREENTRIES CLOSE Monday 6th February 2017 & NO LATE ENTRIES.

To ensure the smooth running of this event, they will be needing officials, so if you are able to help, please contact Derek Shaw (nikau@ts.co.nz) ASAP.

Finally, the Athletics Canterbury Track & Field Championships are being held in Timaru (25th & 26th February 2017).  Several CMA members do attend this event and entries for this event will be on-line this year via the Athletics Canterbury website.

There have been fewer CMA members competing this season at interclub. Hopefully a few more of you will come along in the future.  I  look forward to seeing you there.

Andrew Stark

Tuesday 13th December 2016

Hi All,

I am not sure where the year has done, but it's hard to believe it is almost Christmas!  This is a reminder that our second 'stand-alone' CMA meeting for the season is happening tomorrow night - Wednesday 14th December, Rawhiti Domain @ 6:15 p.m.

It would be great to see more members there than were at the opening meeting in October.

Since the CMA AGM, Anna McNab has offered to be our Treasurer, so I am pleased to welcome her aboard.  Anna competes regularly at interclub on Saturday afternoon.

Vetline Magazine:

If you have rejoined NZMA, then you will continue to receive Vetline as per previous years.  If you have yet to pay your NZMA, you will not get the January issue .... so please pay now.

However, if you are an ANZ Competitive Member, you will need to purchase a subscription to Vetline ($25.00 for 4 issues).   You can do this by depositing $25.00 into the CMA account, use your name as a reference and the word  Vetline.  CLICK HERE for the CMA account info.

Thursday 17th November 2016 - South Island Masters Track & Field Championships Update

Hi All,

Another WMA Championships has been and gone.  Well done to those who took part.  A list of NZMA medal winners and top 5 place getters can be viewed on the NZMA website, plus a complete list of all results.

This weekend CMA is hosting the South Island Masters Track & Field Championships in Timaru.  This is part of a larger meeting including the Athletics Canterbury Combined Events & Steeplechase Championships, plus a normal interclub programme on Saturday afternoon.

For those going here is some information you may find helpful:

  • A list of Competitors.  If you have been missed from an event, don't worry.  I will sort that out on the day.
  • Schedule of Events.  Please note that the 3000m & 5000m track walks have been combined with the 3000m & 5000m races, starting at the race start times.  Some of our events will also be incorporated within the Athletics Canterbury Combined or Interclub events, i.e. steeplechase & hurldes.
  • Notice of SI Masters AGM & previous Minutes (please read and be there) - Saturday @ 11:30 a.m.
  • Track side 'BBQ'.  Thank you to those who indicated they would attend.  We are planning to hold an informal gathering at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, in the building outside the track near the 100m start area.  It will not be a BBQ as such, but food will be provided, either by those who indicated they would attend or you can contribute $5.00 and CMA will organise some food.  We can decide what we do when we see you on Friday or Saturday.
  • Thank you to those who have let me know that they can officiate.  We may need more helpers over the weekend, so if you see there is a storage of help at an event (particular in the field), please offer to assist.

CMA would like to acknowledge the financial support we receive from NZCT.  Without their support it would be difficult to hold this event.

Thank you for attending this event ....  see you tomorrow or over the weekend.  All we need now is some fine weather!

Regards,

Andrew Stark
